IDEAL Future Work Package 2 Report

23 as a teacher. You'll enjoy it more. The kids will enjoy it more, and it is all about just the fear getting over. (IE P4) When speaking about their beliefs those who conveyed positive outlooks felt digital technology was important for students in their future careers, and acknowledge how inherent it is in children’s lives. Many of those interviewed spoke of new skills that will be brought about through pervasive technology and the need for digital skills to be viewed as basic literacies I suppose the reality of the situation is probably the students that are in front of us in the classroom every day. Most of the time, or in most cases know more about the technology than we do. (IE P3) So it's challenging I suppose in replacing skills that kids have, but it's also adding skills that we wouldn't have had growing up when we were in school or my parents’ generation wouldn't had. (IE P2) And I think like it's a basic life skill at this point…. he same way that like you should be teaching people to read and write, you should be teaching them how to make files and find them on a computer(IE P24) Technology can motivate students to complete tasks and spark interest. (LV 21, future teacher) 5.2 Potential of digital learning When considering their experiences of digital transformation interviewees spoke about the affordances technology has offered with regard to inclusion, supporting student centred learning and reducing workload for educators and educational leaders, see table Theme Sub themes Inclusion Access, level of access skills, risk of social inequality, inclusion in society, potential for bias and exclusion Student Centred specifically the use of technology to personalise learning, support student led learning and offer alternative learning experiences Reducing professional workload Planning, preparation of material and assessment and feedback Table 5: Summary of sub themes and codes under theme potential of digital learning 5.2.1 Inclusion Participants were asked about their experiences in using digital learning for inclusion, many spoke of the potential of technology to include those with specific learning needs, at risk students or those who have mental health concerns. Later in the challenges you will see that supporting digital inclusion was also a challenge due to issues with access and skills. The ‘e-classroom’ platform offers the opportunity for all participants in the educational process to be involved/connected in communication - often it is not possible to meet even your colleagues because the educational institution is located in 4 different buildings, so this platform provides the opportunity to easily "reach" your students' class teachers, as well as parents and students themselves. (LV in- service teacher for 7 years) It's really, really inclusive, especially for children with special education needs….. Like, if you're looking at children who have access to assistive technology, they can engage and say, for example, the spelling test in a Friday using their digital device. (IE P16) children with additional needs technology comes in handy there for certain areas, even breaks (IE P19) we do have a lot of kids that are in and out of school, you know, at risk, kids. So we always say listen, all stuff is up on teams anyway for you to keep up to date with everything. (IE P4)
