IDEAL Future Work Package 2 Report
4 Section 1: Context 1.1 Purpose of the report This work package is aligned to the problem identification and empathise stage of the project methodology (see below). The project partners collaborated 164 with pre-service and in-service educators and educational leaders to identify the problems they have in leading digital learning and situating it in their individual contexts, classroom, schools and broader school community. In addition the impacts of such problems on practice were discussed. Figure 1: IDEAL Future project methodology The work package engaged in surveys narrative interviews with pre-service and in-service teachers and educational leaders to consider the digital leadership ecosystem and its inter-related elements. In the interviews, participants were encouraged to consider not only the technological landscape but their practice, school and the broader social context in which they are situated. See appendix 1 for interview guides. It is envisaged that the outputs from this work package will provide authentic challenges for participants to consider within the teacher academy professional learning activities to enable reflection, problem/challenge based learning and transformative dialog. In addition it is expected that these outputs can be used within initial teacher education contexts and curricula to prepare preservice teachers to teach and lead within a digital era. Key outputs of the work package include: 1. Challenge based scenarios. These will be multimedia narrative resources that present the complex problems educators and leaders face in a digital context. These will be made available on the digital hub and incorporated into professional development activities within the teacher academy. It is envisaged these will target practice level. 2. Report on the Current and Future Challenges Facing Digital Educational Leaders . This will be a summary of the findings of WP2 and will be disseminated at a broader level to policy makers, Initial Teacher Education Institutes and to an academic audience via a journal publication.
